Move Along Cycling Tours
These are perhaps the most demanding tours where you move on each day to new accommodation. You have the advantages of covering the maximum range and take in more varied sights and terrain.

Canal Nantes à Brest Northern Section:
This tour begins in Mur de Bretagne, on the edge of Lac Guerledan. From Mur de Bretagne you follow the old railway line, now a dedicated cycle/walking path, and ride above the lake. At its western end you join the Canal Nantes à Brest as the river Blavet. 140km later you reach Chateaulin where the canal flows as the river Hyere into the Rade de Brest.

We recommend at least 5 days for this route, although it could be cycled in much less time, with hard-riding, but this would offer few opportunities to enjoy the beauty, peace, and tranquillity of the countryside. For the cyclist of average fitness, this is not a challenging ride along the canal, although some of the accommodation available is in the villages 'above' the canals, requiring a significant climb at the end of the day.

Note:
The whole of the Canal Nantes à Brest is 360km long. For riders of average fitness and stamina, a challenge in a week, but why not? Previous clients have made the whole canal route in 10 days and another couple in 14 days. You choose how long you want to take and we'll organise the accommodation for you!

Canal Nantes à Brest Southern Section:
This tour begins in Redon a town of about 10500 inhabitants. Redon is a lovely old port on the banks of the river Vilaine and offers a relaxing start to your ride along the Canal Nantes à Brest. Your ride will take you to Mur de Bretagne almost 140km away, stopping at the dramatic town of Jossellin, dominated by the Chateau of the Rohan family, to Pontivy, the ancient Napoléanville and on to Mur de Bretagne.

To do justice to this tour and enjoy the towns en route as well as the fabulous countryside we would recommend 5 days riding. For the cyclist of average fitness this is not a challenging ride, although some of the accommodation available is in the villages 'above' the canals, requiring a climb at the end of the day.

Le Chemin de Petit Train:
This excellent dedicated cycle/walking route follows a former railway line from Carhaix Plougher to Montauban-de-Bretagne. Starting close to the Breton 'mountains' of the Arée and passing through ancient villages, with monuments dating from the Neolithic age, to the Roman occupation 2000 years ago and along the largest man made lake in Brittany.

There are a few hills where the route now departs from the original railway-bed, which, along with a leafy tree-lined path ensure this route is varied and interesting. Not difficult for the cyclist of average fitness and worth every bit of the energy you will expend. This tour takes you through the hidden centre of Brittany. Always away from the tourist hotspots, the ride will enable you to discover what we at Rambling Rides regard as the essence of this very special area.
